Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the team knows exactly where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
